Cataloging non-available data is actually a great idea Peter ! People are usually not aware of the hidden informations. Maybe we'll organize a working day with volunteers for this purpose. Thanks for the idea :)

That sounds great. If you do want to increase pressure, there is of course a benefit of cataloging datasets that are not yet free. If the public is made aware of how many datasets the government has and how few are actually available, pressure will increase.

In sweden I have only found 11 datasets that can be considered open: http://www.opengov.se/data/open/

But the catalog contains 67 datasets in total and people are making interesting comments on those that are not free: http://www.opengov.se/data/alla/

Hi Peter,

After the governement made a request, 3 private businesses started working on the creation of a national platform. It should be launched by 2011 and it's called Data Publica.

But our actions right now are about freeing data in France because they are still out of reach and there is no point in having platforms before getting the data free. Rennes, a nearby city has announced it would free its first transit data in two months. It will be the first time in France so the move has just started. We'll let you know on this blog

Concerning a platform, we were thinking about eventually using OKFN to show available data in France as they are creating a worldwide catalog for free. Being no "web technicians" meaning we don't code, we don't know how to launch websites but your point is good too.
